November 2017 : AVe participation in the PRODEL inauguration - Cameroon

3rd AVe mission for a pig Cooperative in central Cameroon

Louis Jestin and Jean-François Montin, AVe experts experienced a very positive mission in Yaoundé from November 25 to December 1, 2017. The program had two main points : the validation of the SCOOPS-PIC project, a cooperative of around twenty pork producers and participation in the inauguration of PRODEL (Livestock Development Program) organized by MINEPIA (Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries)

It was the final step of an approach started at the beginning of June 2017, by two diagnoses : one on the twenty farms of the cooperative and the other onstyle="text-align: justify; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;"> the pig sector of center Cameroon, and continued at the end of June by a seminar which allowed SCOOPS-PIC members to formalize their project taking into account the two diagnoses.
During the November mission, the two AVe experts presented the project and the resulting business plan to the members. Thanks to two meetings with the members and three meetings with the administrators of SCOOPS-PIC, the members have taken over the project at their own and validated it. All the conditions are met to start the project on January 1, 2018.

 The PRODEL inauguration

The PRODEL (Livestock Development Program) is set up in the country by the MINEPIA (Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries) and the World Bank from the end of 2017. The objective of the program is to provide investment aid to modernize and to make livestock farming profitable (whatever the species). Cameroon is the first country in Africa to benefit from such a program. The official inauguration of PRODEL took place on November 29. By participating in this event, the AVe experts have better understood how the country works and they were able to meet many interlocutors from the livestock sector and the organizations that deal with it.
