August 2019: field mission to Cameroon for a pork project
Pork project of two Cameroonians, MM Chengoue and Tchoubet living in France as part of a return to their country.
Preliminary discussions between the two interested parties and the AVe association led to the signing of a partnership agreement to formalize the project with the business plan establishment in July and a mission to Cameroon in August.
From August 15 to 25, 2019, Angelet Tchoubet, one of the project leaders and Louis Jestin (AVe) led together a “field mission” to Cameroon in order to discover the different links in the country pork sector and to specify the project based on the realities of this sector.
6 Cameroonian pig farms visited
This mission took us from Yaoundé to Douala via Bafoussam, located in the first pig region of Cameroon in the western country, and allowed us to visit 6 Cameroonian pig farms with at each time a very enriching direct exchange between Angelet and the breeder. Each farm has its history and its specificities and the observation of the positive but also of the negative aspectshas highlighted the essentials to consider from the outset and the mistakes to avoid to define the breeding model to implement.
Upstream and downstream players in the pork sector
The mission also enabled us to visit actors in the pork sector. Note : the very interesting visit of the "Société des Provenderies du Cameroun" (SPC) located in Bafoussam.
We have seen the professionalism of this company at all levels:

Downstream of this economic sector, we visited the slaughterhouses of Yaoundé : a fixed slaughterhouse with a specific installation for porks, and a mobile slaughterhouse located near the pork market and shops selling pork in Yaoundé, such as BCL and Casino. These visits made it possible to clarify the marketing circuit for the pigs that will be reased. In addition, during the meeting with PRODEL Cameroon (Livestock Development Program) agents, we collected reliable information on the financing options for the project. Two meetings have been held with contractors : a plumbing specialist for the water supply installation and a building specialist for livestock buildings.
Completed contract : a written project and its business plan
The 10-day mission to Cameroon allowed Angelet to clarify his project, thanks to the various meetings made on site. The AVe expert was able to write the project and to establish the business plan. A first version was given to the two project leaders on the last day of the mission. After some back and forth, the final version could be provided in mid-September.
